Is it obligatory to declare the third Shahada?

Is it obligatory to declare the third Shahada? 834 469 The Office Of His Eminence Sheikh al-Habib

QUESTION:

Some Shi’a told me that declaring the third Shahada (i.e. Ali Waliul-Allah) during the Tashahhud is obligatory for daily prayers. Is this true?

Also, did the Imams (peace be upon them) announce the third Shahada during Adhan (i.e. call to prayer)?

ANSWER:

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.
May Allah bless Muhammad and his Family and damn their enemies.

In the books of Maqatil (the stories of how the Infallibles were martyred), such as Maqtal al-Hussain, by Al-Khawarizmi, he narrates the following of him (may peace be upon him):

Abu Basir narrated of Imam Abu Abdullah al-Sadiq (peace be upon him):

In the name of Allah, all praise is due to Allah, and the best of all names belong to Allah. I bear witness that there is no God but Allah alone with no partner. I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. He has sent him with the truth as a bearer of good news and as a warner … and I bear witness that my Lord is the transcendent Lord, Muhammad is the transcendent Messenger and that Ali is the transcendent vicegerent (of Allah) and Imam. O Allah send your eternal blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, and accept his intercession for his people and raise his rank high; all praise is due to Allah the Lord of the worlds.
Fiqh al-Majlisi, p. 29

Al-Majlisi comments:

it is recommended to include in the Tashahhud what has been narrated by Abu Basir

It has also been narrated that Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) said:

In the name of Allah, all praise is due to Allah, and the most beautiful names belong to Allah. I bear witness that there is no God but Allah alone with no partner. I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. He has sent him with the truth as a bearer of good news, and as a warner … I bear witness that You are the transcendent Lord, Muhammad is the transcendent Messenger and that Ali is the transcendent guardian. [I testify that] Paradise is a truth, Hell is a truth, death is a truth, and the resurrection is a truth, and verily the Hour will come: there can be no doubt about it, or about (the fact) that Allah will raise all who are in the graves. All praise is due to Allah who has guided us to this [right path], and we would not have found the way without his guidance. O Allah send your eternal peace, blessings and mercy upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad … O Allah send your eternal Blessings on Muhammad al-Mustafa, Ali al-Murtadha and Fatima al-Zahra as well as upon al-Hassan and al-Hussain, and the Imams from the progeny of Taha and Yaseen.
Fiqh al-Ridha (peace be upon him) by Ali ibn Babawayh, p. 108.

Allah (Exalted be He) announced the Adhan (i.e. call for prayer) ever since the dawn of Creation with the inclusion of the third Shahada. Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said:

We, the Family of the Prophet, were the first to have their names pronounced. When Allah created heaven and earth, he ordered a call to be made. It was announced: ‘I testify that there is no God but Allah three times, I testify that Muhammad is his messenger three times, and I testify that Ali is the Commander of the Faithful three times.
Amali Al-Sadooq, p. 701

Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) ordered that whenever one says no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to say Ali is the Commander of the Faithful.
Al-Ihtijaj by Tabrasi vol. 1 page 230.

On the authority of the reference known as Salafa in the Matter of Khilafah by Abdullah Al-Miraghi that Abu Ther (may Allah be pleased with him) recited the Adhan with Ali’s (peace be upon him) name in it during the time of Ghadeer.
Risalat al-Hidaya by Sheikh Muhammad Hussain Al-Tahir p. 45.

Also, the ‘’Sunnis’ reported that Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) was announcing the Adhan as such.
