QUESTION:
In Du’a Kumail, we ask Allah’s forgiveness for sins that lead to our prayers being blocked, necessitate the downfall of calamities and misfortunes, and deprive us of His blessings.
What are such sins?
ANSWER:
In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.
May Allah bless Muhammad and his Family and damn their enemies.
In consultation with Sheikh al-Habib;
Imam Zain al abedeen (peace be upon him) said according to Al-Saddoq in Maani Al-Akbar, p. 269:
1- The sins that lead to our du’as being blocked are:
To have ill intentions, to keep mean feelings within, to act hypocritically with brothers in faith, delaying the times of regular Salah, neglecting charitable deeds and pious acts and using bad and abusive language are sins that can lead to your du’a being blocked by the heavens so that no response will come down.
2- The sins that bring calamities down are:
Neglecting to help those in need despite the obvious desperation of their situation and their calls for help, not supporting those who are subject to injustices, and abandoning your duty of enjoining good and prohibiting evil are sins that may bring you misfortune.
Furthermore, on the issue of enjoining good and prohibiting evil:
Do let it be known that your ultimate act of enjoining good is your call for the Wilayah (support and loyalty) of Ali (peace be upon him) and the Imams (peace be upon them) after him. Your ultimate act of prohibiting evil is your call to prohibit the Wilayah of the enemies of Allah, as instructed by our Imam Al Sadiq (peace be upon him).
3- The sins that change or alter blessings are:
Being aggressive towards others, neglecting the habit of doing good, pretending that you do good deeds, disbelieving in the blessings that you have, and avoiding the acts of offering thankfulness to Allah (Exalted be He) are all sinful acts that can change the blessings you have into misfortune and tribulations.
