Did Lady Fatima threaten to uncover her hair? 834 469 The Office Of His Eminence Sheikh al-Habib

QUESTION:

The ‘Sunnis’ claim that Lady Fatima (peace be upon her) cannot be an Infallible because, in the incident in which she protested against the so-called Companions taking Imam Ali (peace be upon him) captive, she threatened to uncover her hair and curse the assailants. As we know, Muslim women are not permitted to uncover their hair in public, so how could an Infallible – one who cannot sin – do such an act?

In other words, would the Lady threaten to sin if she was infallible?

ANSWER:

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.
May Allah bless Muhammad and his Family and damn their enemies.

Lady al-Zahra (peace be upon her) threatened to spread her hair and put the holy shirt of her father, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family), on her head under the sky to ask her Lord (the Most Exalted) to send His wrath upon the oppressors.

She (peace be upon her) did not threaten to uncover her head before people; she threatened to pray in this particular manner, which would bring the Most Exalted’s ire upon them fast.

She said (may our souls be sacrificed for her sake):

leave my cousin [and my husband alone]! By the one who has sent Muhammad with the truth, if you do not leave him, I will spread my hair, put the shirt of the messenger of Allah on my head, and wail to Allah (Blessed and Exalted He be)
Al-Ihtijaj by al-Tabarsi vol. 1, pg. 113, al-Mustarshad by al-Tabari pg. 38.

Her statement (peace be upon her): “and wail to Allah (Blessed and Exalted He be)” signifies that uncovering her holy head would be done in the state of making dua (prayer). Spreading her hair means unbraiding it, as this was a tradition practiced by grieving women during calamities. It does not mean that the hair would, by any means, be uncovered before men.
