Sheikh, I have a question. I was in a discussion with my friends about steroids. I would like to know if it is forbidden, permissible or disliked, and why. I appreciate this site.

In consultation with His Eminence, Sheikh al-Habib;
If it is not derived from prohibited substances and taking it does not cause serious harm or lead to any prohibited act, then it is permissible. However, it has been reported that these products have serious side-effects on one’s health, even if they appear in the long run, this suggests and strengthens the ruling that it is prohibited. This is because Islam does not permit Muslims to cause any harm to themselves, as the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) said in a well-known narration:
There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm in Islam
