QUESTION:

Adam and Eve were the two and only people on Earth. They had children of their own, but that doesn’t explain how the human population grew if it is forbidden for siblings to marry and reproduce?

ANSWER:

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful.
May Allah bless Muhammad and his Family and damn their enemies.

It is impossible for Allah, the Most Exalted, to allow such marriage since it is against human nature. Shi’a Islam rejects the narrations which state that Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) married his sons to his daughters.

Surely the (true) religion with Allah is Islam’
 Aal-e-Imran, 3:19

as such, Islam is the religion of all Prophets who came before the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him and his purified family). It is unimaginable that Adam, the Prophet of Allah, who acts according to Islamic law, would allow such forbidden marriage

The pure Infallibles (peace be upon them) narrate that a ‘Houri’ (a maid from Paradise) and a female Jinni (demon) were sent by Allah to be chosen as wives of the sons of Prophet Adam to continue the progeny of Adam and Eve (peace be upon them). Some narrations also state that the Houri was married to either Abel or Sheth, and the female Jinni was married to either Cain or Japheth.
Ilal al-Shara’i, page 45

Lawful marriages and not incest, as the opponents of Ahl- al-Bayt (peace be upon them) believe, is how Earth was populated.
