When he (peace be upon him) paused for moments to rest after he got weakened from fighting, a rock was thrown at him. It hit his forehead; He used his top to wipe away the blood from his face. A three-pronged arrow then hit him and pierced his heart. He said, while looking at the sky: ‘In the Name of Allah, by Allah and the nation of the Messenger of Allah…They are killing a man whom there is no other son of a Prophet on this earth apart from him.’ He removed the arrow from his chest, and blood gushed out. He placed his hand underneath the wound until It was filled with his blood. He then threw the blood on his hands towards the sky, but not a single drop fell back down. He placed his hand again on the wound until it was filled with blood and used it to anoint his face and beard. He then said: ‘In this manner and appearance, I shall remain until I meet my grandfather, the Messenger of Allah, and say to him: O’ Messenger of Allah! I was killed by Abu Bakr and Umar’

Another narration states that a man asked Imam Al-Hussain (peace be upon him) about Abu Bakr and Umar, and his response was:
By Allah! They have both taken our Divine right! They have both placed themselves in a position that belonged to us! They have both stepped on our necks! They have allowed people to step on our necks!
